Midwest Drum Major and Leadership Camp

This 3-day intensive camp is for students who are student leaders in their bands, drum majors or aspire to leadership or to be a drum major in their programs. Open to ages 13 through 21. Focus will be on student leadership, rehearsal techniques, conducting skills and score study. Select students will conduct the Blue Devils ensemble. Students will perform in exhibition with The Blue Devils at the DCI Minnesota competition.

TCF Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN

Jenny Grice has taught band and orchestra for over a dozen years. Her orchestra from Lafayette H.S., KY has performed at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference, Music for All National Orchestra Festival and The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. She has served on the faculty at Campbellsville University teaching oboe. Jennifer was the drum major for the Phantom Regiment and has been a leading clinician for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy and is now director of education for the Conn-Selmer Corporation.

Brian Howard was the drum major for the Blue Devils from 2007 through 2010, an era that saw the corps earn 3 DCI Titles and a Silver medal. A native of Southern California, Brian teaches with several programs and has been involved with the famed RCC Marching Tigers. Currently an Assistant Manager for the Blue Devils, Brian gives drum major clinics and classes across the country.

Please bring a brass or woodwind instrument of your choice, as you will learn music from which to do score study and conducting skills. If you play multiple instruments, we encourage you to bring the instrument that is most easy to transport and is most durable. Dress for warm, sunny weather, and rain. Some events will be held outdoors. Be sure to bring or fax this medical release form [download pdf].

Students have the option of commuting, securing their own overnight accommodations, or stay at the UM dorms, under the supervision of System Blue staff.

Optional - $50: Dorm rooms on the campus of the University of Minnesota campus. Suite-style dorm rooms include private showers and 4 occupants per dorm.
